Barraquer Foundation Expedition to Lesvos 2019
We are very excited to announce that the Barraquer Foundation in conjunction with Light Without Borders will bring a team of ophthalmologists, surgeons and others to Lesvos in November 2019.
The mission has two aims:
- Eye surgery to remove cataracts and other medical intervention for refugees
- Training in visual health issues for local staff who work with refugees
Light Without Borders will:
- Locate and prepare a space suitable for eye surgery
- Identify and enlist local ophthalmologists, nurses, optometrists, etc. who would benefit from the training workshops
- Locate and identify patients within the local and refugee communities requiring eye surgery
- Arrange government permits, accommodation, transport, etc.
The Barraquer Foundation expedition travelling to Lesvos will comprise:
- 2 training ophthalmologists
- 2 nurses
- 2 assistants
- 1 anaesthetist
- 1 resident doctor
- 1 or 2 optometrists
- 3 or 4 non-health personnel
